Hamilton Volunteers
In 2005 the Hamilton Volunteer Fire Brigade - based at Chartwell station - began a transition towards providing Operational Support services to the Hamilton Fire District and wider Waikato region.   In mid 2007 the group fully re-commissioned with a specialised response vehicle, purchased the old Birkenhead VFB emergency lighting plant and commenced a number of exciting projects for the future.   With these in mind, plus the fact many members come directly from fire fighting roles, the group sees itself as becoming a unique Operational Support resource and a leader of innovations in the field.   The prime roles of the unit are salvage, lighting and Urban Search & Rescue.   In the 12 months since re-commissioning, the Hamilton Volunteers were responded to 43 calls, most for salvage and lighting.
