| Hawera Fire Police |
Hawera Fire Police Unit was formed on April 24th, 1954. The unit started with 20 members, they were issued with white dust coats and old steel helmets - ex army, painted white with "Fire police" painted in red. The Fire Police Unit covers all of the Hawera area including Ohawe, Normanby and Fonterra - the largest dairy factory in the southern hemisphere. Duties include traffic and crowd control, salvage and external fire fighter duties, hose running, ladders, BA contol, etc.
