| Waipu Fire Police

The Waipu Brigade recently celebrated 50 Years in operation, and the Waipu Fire Police unit have been supporting the brigade for 20 of those years. They cover State Highway 1 from about 6 km north of Waipu to the top of the Brynderwyns, which is about 18 km south of Waipu. The unit was regularly called out to a number of MVA's along this stretch of road, but with the installation of passing lanes and other improvements to the highway, this number has dropped. They also backup Ruakaka to calls at the NZ Oilrefinery and to the LVL Timber plant at Marsden Point, as well as to the Fontera Dairy Factory in Maungatroto. Currently the Waipu Fire Police unit average about 60 calls per year.
